Mirror, July 2007

Giles is refurbishing a neglected three-story property in East Dulwich. His pride and joy is a newly renovated bathroom with natural slate floors and strong orange painted walls. It needed his girlfriend to point out how hard and masculine the combination of stone, chrome and colour had become. Inspired Mosaics was asked to provide a mirror above the sink “to make a splash -- with curves, softness and femininity”. The result was a Gaudi-influenced curvaceous mirror, still functional enough for Giles to see his reflection when shaving but incorporating the colours of the bathroom plants and a spot of that bold orange wall. Mirror soon to be featured in Essential Bathrooms, Bedrooms & Kitchens.

Carol Patio

Patio floor, June 2007

Carol wanted a splash in her patio garden. She lives in a modern terraced cottage in the centre of Brighton where space is at a premium. Her lovely kitchen, with full-length glass doors, looks out on a small patio with little sun. The walls are clad in lush climbing plants and she wanted a mosaic floor ‘to bring life and colour’ to the space with a theme of ‘falling leaves in a modern style’. Inspired Mosaics created and installed a mosaic floor containing whorls of interest and colour. The space has been transformed. Carol noted, “ It’s a joy to look out of the kitchen and see this. Even more so, to go out there and catch the reflections and colours first hand.”

Mosaic Works! March 2007

At the Victoria Court Alzheimer Residential Centre, Stevenage, the internal, courtyard used to be a disheartening mud patch. There was nowhere outside in the fresh air for residents that was safe, tranquil and could lift their spirits. An initiative by Groundwork Hertfordshire, relatives of residents and staff of the Centre to transform this enclosed space into an attractive commemorative garden was finished off with some fine mosaic pieces from Liz de Ath and the Inspired Mosaics workshop. The brief was to provide mosaic work for the newly installed garden that was visually stimulating and tactile. Stainless steel structures were used and incorporated into the designs that included a three metre tall tree, a similarly sized vine and several leaves. The result generated excitement and enthusiasm from both staff and residents looking forward to enjoying fresh air, nature and some delightful mosaic artworks. Spring had come early to Stevenage!
